  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cups Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

  • 1 3/4 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Butter, softened
  • 2 Eggs Large
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in milk and vanilla.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Slowly pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting (optional).

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder. You can add chocolate chips to the batter or top with your favorite frosting.
