Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Warm Water Slightly warmer than room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Shortening Crisco or similar

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add the warm water, vegetable oil, and shortening to the dry ingredients.
  • Mix with a fork or your hands until a shaggy dough forms. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Divide the dough into 12 equal-sized balls.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a 6-inch circle using a rolling pin. Keep tortillas covered with a clean kitchen towel to prevent drying.
  • Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each tortilla for about 30-60 seconds per side, or until lightly browned and cooked through.
  • Stack the cooked tortillas and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.

Notes

For softer tortillas, let the dough rest for 30 minutes before rolling and cooking. You can also add a tablespoon of lard for extra flavor and tenderness.
